Life is busy – the days, weeks, months dash by! Before we know it our Little People are yet a year older and then another and then another….. As this time rushes over, under and beyond us so many things about a our relationship and time spent with our children shifts and changes and if we are not intentional in the way we choose to engage and capture our moments – they will slip through our fingers before we have even realized that they are gone.

Over the years we have however learned that if we create “ageless” activities and moments with our children that can be embraced and grow with them as they grow – these become our connection points and a way to keep up those relationships and connects no matter their age or space that they find themselves within.

These activates have include things such as Dad reading very selected books to them – including his Astrix comics, hiking together, having a weekly movie night and a special breakfast – on either Saturday or Sunday. The beauty of these ideas are that they can slightly shift and change in that we can read harder books, go on more challenging hikes or watch more complex movies but yet these key moments in themselves become our normal, our rhythm as safe space to just be family and create amazing memories together.

Other ideas may include things such as cycling, sailing, art, surfing – or any myriad of things that families do together but the key thing is that they are able to shift slightly to accommodate our maturing children whilst keeping their fundamental being together element – you may need to establish boundaries such as there are times that friends are and times that friends are not included as well as when electronic devices maybe included and when not. By having thought through these things and having these boundaries set in your mind and established early on keeps these beautiful spaces clean and safe and really special to keep connecting with our kids as they grow.
