Starting out on our parenting journey we can only imagine what the years ahead may look like. We imagine the things we will do with our children and the activities we will engage in.
In their early years we are able to control and to a large degree manage our vision and concepts. As the years go past however they begin to find their own passions and interests. before we know it our children are requesting to partake in things that we never new they were a “thing”.
Suddenly we find ourselves launched into whole new realms that often leave us aimlessly grasping for the new vocabulary and trying to figure out – one step ahead of the kids – how exactly this whole new world that they have launched us into – actually works.
As mom to 5 girls, I – a non dancer – soon found myself fully emersed in a world or dance, hair spray and ballet buns. Over the years we navigated this realm and we finally became confident in how to work within its reality….. only to move to a new city and suddenly find myself launched into a world of life saving and wetsuit patching. Who knew that you use dental floss to repair wetsuits???
This was so overwhelming as I knew no one and it was all so new. Not only did I have to figure out the ins and outs of this new world but I suddenly had to face, and work through and my own issues and fears that I never even knew were there. So often these moments a can become confusing and overwhelming. If however we are able to find other parents who know theses new worlds – who are happy to run alongside us and help us through the initial initiation season, we can find someone to give you the big picture of how it all fits together.
Being Mom or Dad becomes so much more than we ever imagined, before we know it we are embracing new worlds and being extended up and beyond our comfort zones – all in the name of supporting and loving these beautiful little people with whom we get to do this wonderful thing called life.
